House AND land packages under $300,000 LAUNCHED

For the first in Australia, builders and government will collaborate in the ACT to deliver affordable house and land packages under $300,000 through the ACT Government’s OwnPlace Program.

The OwnPlace Program is an innovative project that will see the Land Development Agency and selected builders partner together to provide affordable house and land packages for sale in all new LDA estates.

OwnPlace provides innovative affordable housing options allowing eligible buyers to purchase quality-built homes in LDA estates for under $300,000,” Mr Stanhope said. “It builds on the ACT Government’s requirement for at least 15 per cent of all blocks in new housing estates to target house and land packages within the $200,000 to $300,000 price range, announced in our Affordable Housing Action Plan last year.

“While delivering affordable housing, the OwnPlace program will also provide quality-housing options to cater for a variety of household types and lifestyle preferences – in an effort to allow even more first-home buyers to realise that great Australian dream – to own their own home.

“Home-buyers who purchase their first home through the OwnPlace program may also be eligible for other affordable housing assistance, such as the Home Buyer Concession Scheme, Deferred Stamp Duty Payment Scheme, the Land Rent Scheme, as well as the First Home Owner’s Grant.

“These new homes are master planned into the LDA’s estates as part of the ACT Government’s commitment to ensuring that all Canberrans have access to safe secure and affordable housing.

“Over the next year over 180 affordable OwnPlace homes will be available in the LDA’s estates of Franklin and Bonner.”

Mr Stanhope also announced the builders who have collaborated with the LDA in delivering the new OwnPlace Program.

The successful panel of builders includes RAM Constructions, PBS Homes (ACT) Pty Ltd, Renaissance Homes, AV Jennings Properties Limited, G.E. Shaw & Associates (ACT) Pty Ltd and SM Precision Building Pty Ltd.

The panel of builders will purchase the blocks from the LDA via a ballot system, and then sell the house and land packages directly to the public. The panel of builders will ensure control over the design, quality and price of the affordable land packages and will commence marketing of OwnPlace to the market following the first ballot to be held later this month.
