Chief Minister Jon Stanhope has congratulated the winners of the Chief Minister’s Special Affordable Housing Award as part of the Master Builders and Boral Excellence in Building Awards held last Friday.

“The Chief Minister’s Special Affordable Housing Award is a new category for this year,” Mr Stanhope said. “The ACT Government is sponsoring this Award to encourage excellence in affordable dwelling construction and design and in recognition of actions taken to further the overall objectives of our Affordable Housing Action Plan.

“The Award recognises the significant contribution that the building and construction industry can make to the provision of affordable housing in Canberra. The winning projects demonstrate that affordable housing does not have to compromise lifestyle or amenity.”

This year, the Award was jointly awarded to:

  • The Village Building Company Ltd along with Project Coordination (Australia) Pty Ltd, Oztal Architects Pty Ltd, and Sanctum Interior Design were recognised for their project Proximity at Bruce; and
  • Mark Porreca Pty Ltd was recognised for his project The Tuscanny at Harrison.

“I congratulate the Village Building Company, Project Coordination, Oztal Architects, Sanctum Interior Design, and Mark Porreca for excellence in affordable dwelling construction and design and also the Master Builders Association for supporting this Affordable Housing Action Plan initiative.”

Mr Stanhope said the ACT Government was pleased to provide $5000 to sponsor the Chief Minister’s Special Affordable Housing Award.

In order to be eligible for the Special Affordable Housing Award, entrants were required to demonstrate a strong commitment to affordable housing through activities such as easing housing stress for medium and low income earners; innovative and comprehensive multi faceted strategies; affordable house and land products; easing entry into home ownership; and encouraging excellence in affordable dwelling construction and design.

“To encourage innovation and creativity, the ACT Government in conjunction with industry will support annual awards for Excellence in Housing Affordability carrying a prize pool of $20,000.”
