ACT Labor helps deliver more aged care beds
Released 30/07/2008
A new 260-bed aged care facility to be constructed in Monash is another example of the ACT Labor Government working with industry to deliver more aged care beds for Canberrans, Chief Minister Jon Stanhope said today
"When completed, Goodwin Monash Village will be the Territory's largest retirement facility, providing an extra 150 Independent Living Units and 110 aged care beds for Canberrans," Mr Stanhope said. "Canberrans will benefit from this facility's modern and energy efficient design and 24 hour aged care service.
"I congratulate Goodwin Aged Care's CEO Bruce McKenzie, Chairman David Harper, and the Board of Goodwin Aged Care Services Limited for their foresight and energy to drive the development of this high quality facility.
"This facility further demonstrates the success of the ACT Government's Building for Our Ageing Community Strategy, which aims to deliver more quality aged care accommodation options for senior Canberrans."
Mr Stanhope said he was proud of the ACT Labor Government's record in working with industry to deliver more aged care beds.
"The ACT Labor Government has released land for an extra 900 aged care beds in Canberra. More than 400 beds have been completed and another 280 beds will be completed in 2009, providing senior Canberrans with more quality aged care accommodation options.
"This record is particularly pleasing because in the six years of government before Labor was elected only 14 aged care beds were delivered in total.
"The ACT Labor Government is dedicated to a long-term and strategic approach to working with industry and service providers to deliver high quality aged care accommodation that meets the needs of senior Canberrans," Mr Stanhope said.
