Affordability improves for first homebuyers

The Government has welcomed a new industry report showing that first home buyer affordability increased by 10% in the June quarter of 2008, compared to the same quarter in 2007.

ASSIST PEOPLE

Objective:

Assist people in need to access private rental accommodation

Initiatives	Achievements
Expand the provision of tenant information and advocacy services by providing an additional worker.	An increased allocation of $80,000 to the Tenants Advice Service was provided in the 2007-08 budget.
Work with the Australian Government and other States and Territories to improve the effectiveness of Commonwealth rental assistance to reduce the stress levels of private renters.	States and Territories have commissioned modelling work on Commonwealth Rent Assistance (CRA). The effectiveness of CRA will be considered in the context of negotiations on a National Affordable Housing Agreement through the COAG Housing Working Group.
